How to discipline yourself before exams

As individuals we are different and we ought to know that what works for your friend might not work for you. There are certain individuals who do not study yet they get distinctions at school and there are those who have to study in order to achieve distinctions. As individuals we should search for what works for us academically and rely on it to achieve the best.

Those who do need to study in order to do well academically, they should not compare themselves with those who do not study. They should make more time for their books than they make for their social media platforms. One of the things that makes the youth of our generation incompetent in their exams, is social media. It is good to have social media and to be active on them, but the problem lies where one becomes incompetent because of social media. The youth of our generation spends more time on social media than on their books.

Students should limit the time they spend watching television when exam time approaches, for that is the time they should be studying hard in order to obtain good grades. You can spend all the time you need watching television shows that you love and think that you cannot go a day without. That will not help you in any way, instead it will drag you down, and you will fail and be forced to repeat what you were studying the following year.

Students should learn to limit the time they spend with their friends when the exams are near. Honestly there is not even a single valid reason for students to be hanging out when the exams are near. What they are doing when they spend time together when they should be preparing for the exams, they rob themselves good grades.

Most people do not like exercising, what they do not know is that exercising keeps a human being‘s mind alert. People should consider exercising, even if it is for 20 minutes in order to keep their mind alert. It would be best for students to start making exercise their habit in order for their minds to be alert at all times.

Study tips

  • Write down a study schedule. Make sure that you strictly adhere to the time of the study schedule. Make sure that you do not let anything or anyone mislead you into not adhering to the study timetable you have drawn, as this would cost you a lot.
  • Exercise regularly for your mind to be alert always. This does not necessarily mean that you have to be a gym member and pay money to exercise. You can exercise on your own in your room, you can skip a rope, do push-ups, do squads etc. this does not cost money and you can do it under no one’s supervision, you just have to be dedicated.
  • Do not mix your socialising time with your study time. Make sure that you study when it is your studying time, don not hangout with your friends or make endless conversations when you know that you should be studying. That will not help you in any way; instead, it will increase your chances to fail.
  • You also have to make sure that you rest, for the mind of an individual who does not rest will not be alert. In order for your mind to be alert you have to rest, even if it is for five hours, because you cannot afford to sleep for eight or more hours when you have exams to write. No one will study on your behalf; you must manage your sleeping time well.
  • All in all, discipline yourself before and throughout your exam period. Know that if you spend more time doing a lot of things that does not include working towards getting good grades; you are doing an injustice to yourself. You are the only person who determines your future, you are responsible for the outcomes of your tomorrow, despite of them being good or bad.
  • When you slack around at the time that you should be studying for your exams, you will reap bad results and failure.
