Kufundwa ngamava
Kufundwa Ngamava is a novel set in the 1940s, in Qumbu, a rural district of Transkei. Through the central figures, who are both teachers in the local school, the novel traces the intrigues and prejudices that bedevil an insular community. However, a death-bed confession puts everything right, and the novel ends with the protagonists "becoming leaders of the community in all things progressive". Though didactic, this is historically a valuable record of Transkei life, written at a time when there was very little Xhosa literature.
