Towards the end of the nineteenth century, the government of the South African Republic (Transvaal) introduced law as that directly affected the indigenous people of the country. This led to a number of wars between the government forces and those clans that rebelled against these laws. Kgoshi Makgoba of the BaTlou was one of the chiefs who stood up against what he thought was not right. The war that ensued only came to an end when Swazi warriors helped the Boers defeat the kgoshi.
