Because courts must promote the spirit, purport and objects of the Bill of Rights when doing their work, a meaningful understanding of human rights principles is necessary for a proper application of the South African law in general. The text contains a number of scenarios to help reader grasp the material being discussed by illustrating relevant constitutional principles and issues. Cases are integrated into the text in a manner which should facilitate an understanding of their application.
